Experiential Audio

Or, the Future of Audio in the Making

Mono. Stereo. Surround. These audio innovations all trend towards intensifying and redefining your audio experiences—whether you’re listening on headphones, at home, or in the theatre.

Now there are new sound environments to fill, allowing us to reimagine the realities we create through sound.  From Atmos, to 360, to VR, the bonds of how we consume audio are being rapidly challenged and we’re beginning to create deeper, richer, and more rewarding audio landscapes. East Line has been working in these environments for a while now, finding ways to push audio boundaries in order to deliver immersive, original experiences. While East Line is  still discovering how far it can go with Experiential Audio, below is one example of where it’s been.

Smithsonian Institute - North American Space Museum

We were invited by Immersive International to work on a series of exhibits for the NASM in Washington, D.C. Every level of this multi-year project demanded innovation, precision, balance, and perspective. For the installation to succeed, East Line had to look close to see far—supporting every audio decision with evidence-based research and numerical reasoning to ensure accuracy while pushing creative bounds to ensure an entertaining, immersive experience in a massive public venue.  What resulted is a stunning 360-degree immersive video, multiple large screen installations bannering exhibit halls, and interactive components throughout the exhibits, all of which highlight how limitless the possibilities in audio are.

Next time you’re in D.C., check it out and let East Line know what you think!
